I am happy to report that HiTime Wine agreed to deliver to me in New York. It took about 10 days to receive, but I got two bottles at 31.99. On the second daiquiri, I dialed down the proportions to 3 oz oronoco, .75 oz lime, .5 oz 2-1 turbinado syrup. This rum is so good that it redefines daiquiri for me, much in the same way a Depaz(Rhum Agricole) daiquiri does. I was linking the cocktail glass clean after it was empty... I wish I had not left the few drops is the shaker. Viva Oronoco!

Dood,

Finally tried Oronoco. Had two glasses on rocks. awesome. I am jealous that HiTime wine lists it for 31.99 but does not ship to NY. it is 45 dollars at the only place I can find it here. There is a big margin for you to bootleg it east.

RumDood,I have seen only Oronoco Platinum at my local store. Very pricey. Is this the same thing as what you discuss here?

I dunno...I spent a good deal of time with the bottle, and to me there was vanilla. I often find that different people find different flavor notes. Usually I'm in agreement with most flavors that I see other people finding, but occasionally can't find one that someone else has, or find one that no one else is talking about.

I think that's one of the things I enjoy about comparing tasting notes: the subtle differences caused by different palates.

Dood, we love ya. And Sue Sea and I agree with you most of the time. But not today. Believe me, we wanted to like this rum and honestly, it's not bad. Actually it's not much of anything. Let's start where we agree...

Smooth? Absolutely!
Background grassy aroma and finish? Yup.
A light sweetness throughout? Yes.
Mildly warm finish? Yes, but short.

Actually, it's beginning to look like we agree more than I thought. Now where we part is on the vanilla. You are not the first to find or report it. To such an extent that we felt driven to taste Oronoco repeatedly to find it. And we can't. Now mind you, I LOVE the vanillan tones of rum - and Sue Sea is a major user of vanilla in her cooking and baking.

It's not there. Really. What we found, and you will have rip the vanilla extract from our cold, dead hands before we report anything but anise and a hint of licorice.

Trust us, we agonized over this. And tasted and tasted. It's anise. We swear it. It's like the difference between clove and pepper - similar but not the same. In this case vanilla and anise - very similar.

But absolutely, positively not the same. I'd bet any one of my mother-in-laws on this. And if you win, you are welcome to them, lol.

But in sum, we largely agree. Still we find Oronoco WAY overpriced for rum that is pleasant, light, crisp and tasty. But not particularly special or remarkable.

OTOH, I do think that our younger readers may find that Oronoco is so easy drinking that it's a great way to get laid....

Our review, for those who'd like to read it all is at...

Keep up the great work!
Having recently entered the ranks of rumsnobbery and graduated from Mt. Gay Eclipse to Ron Pampero Aniversario to Pyrat Planters (short bottle) to 10 Cane to my heretofore favorite, Santa Teresa 1796, Oronoco is my new favorite rum and would definitely be an integral part of any ''Death Row Meal''. Oronoco is smoother than a baby's rear and definitely better tasting. I couldn't envision, however, using Oronoco in any sort of cocktail -- that reeks of heresy. Oronoco is meant to be enjoyed neat or with an ice cube.

Great site, btw!
