I found the Mount Gay XO (in Belgium the age is listed as 12 yrs) to be far too woody for use in cocktails. It's like having woodchips floating in your drink instead of icecubes.

I mixed with fresh orange juice (2 oranges), half a lime, and a dash of simple syrup.

im thinking this or bunderburg 100 proof ( 100 days? but 100 proof).
Matusalem Gran Reserva 15 not like. too much oak roughness and subtle molasses. Im not sure. i guess anything, jammy, banna, bean, fresh, rummy, glides down. not spiri y or rough edges. there also appleton 12 in store. i think that too tropical for me.

What are the proportions for the "fall-back cocktail" you mention? Sounds good and I want a baseline mix so I know what it's supposed to taste like. Thanks

I'm with you on this one Dood. Even after tasting 40 of the leading rums, including maybe 6 cane juice rums, MGXO remains my favorite. It's way too easy to go along with the latest trends, hidden flavorings, etc. But to me (and many others) Mount Gay just keeps on producing a real rum, smooth, complex, beautifully blended and that reflects 300 years of tradition.

It is a rum you sip with care, but which will reward you. It's the rum that, with Appleton Extra , answers the question "What is rum supposed to taste like?". Thanks for your review...
