Just a quick update for those interested. I did get around to making the drink again with Clement VSOP subbed for the Pyrat XO and it’s still (IMO) a great drink. It’s a softer drink now, lacking the rough edges of the Pyrat, but very tasty. I’m thinking that if a smoother rum like Clement VSOP is used, you should consider increasing the rum from 1 oz to 1.5 oz.

JM VSOP…I hadn’t considered that. That could have something to do with my lack of a bottle of it, but I had considered making one of these tonight with the Clement VSOP. Hopefully it still works…a buddy of mine is part-owner in a bar in Downtown Fullerton and they carry Clement VSOP and the Creole Shrubb…so I’d actually have a bar where I could could get my own drink. Let me know how the JM works out!

The Tragic Kingdom recipe sounds great, Matt. I think that I’ll mix up some of your Orange County goodness in Manhattan tonight– but I may go with JM VSOP instead of the Pyrat XO. I’ll let you know how it goes. And let me know if you need more orange liqueur– Clement will in be San Fran for Slow Food Nation, and we’d love to pass you along some bottles of Creole Shrubb.

Ha ha ha! I loooove the name of your drink. And, I’m also a huge Gwen Stefani fan and love the album by the same name.

I think I’ll put on the CD and drink your drink as hommage to life behind the Orange Curtain…

The saddest day of Dan’s life, I think, was when he found out that Disneyland sells Mint Juleps in New Orleans Square…and that they’re now non-alcoholic.

Well, as I mentioned, I was trying to go for the cheaper feel that I figured they would actually go for at the resort. It failed miserably. I’m actually a fan of Sailor Jerry in the right drinks, but in this one, no…no no no no no no no.

I can’t believe you swapped in Sailor Jerry’s! Why didn’t you just pee in it? The original recipe sounds fairly sweet, but tasty, and definitely not one-dimensional.

I used to know this…and I was just told what a great D-Land tour guide I am. I’m thinking it’s Club 33…but I could be wrong…could be Blue Bayou.
