This coming Thursday, April 9 2009, Thursday Drink Night at the Mixoloseum is being sponsored by none other than Mount Gay Rum. In fact, the theme for the evening isn’t just Mount Gay, it’s Mount Gay Extra Old!
The MGXO is one of my favorite rums. It’s delicious, versatile, and smooth. I enjoy sipping it neat, on the rocks, with a twist of lime, or in any of several dozen cocktails (try it in an El Presidente or Machado and prepare to watch your bottle end up empty faster than you can say “Chesterfield Browne”).
Speaking of Chester Browne, Mount Gay’s head mixologist will be joining the fray to answer questions and even mix up a few drinks with us. It’s going to be an incredible evening of fun and good drinks.
If you’re not familiar with Thursday Drink Night (aka TDN), it’s a weekly event hosted by the good people (well, mostly good) in the Mixoloseum chat room. Every week a collection of cocktail bloggers, bartenders, enthusiasts, experts, and novices get together for a virtual cocktail party. The goal is to create drinks around a theme – a different theme every week! Drinks are created on-the-fly and then tried by anyone who can make them and critiqued, modified, rearranged, etc. It’s an incredible amount of fun whether your a veteran bartender, a student of mixology, or someone who just really likes whatever the theme happens to be on any given week. Participation is encouraged by not required – if you want to just lurk and make the drinks as they’re suggested, hey, as they say in the Caribbean, “No pressure. No problem.”
So join me and the rest of the TDN crew this coming Thursday for TDN: Mount Gay Extra Old!

Mount Gay Extra Old was actually developed by Joy Spence.
I hope someday I reach an age at which I proudly declare myself “extra old.”
Oh you think you’re SOOO funny, Martin. Jerk. 😉
Bonzogal! love that statement;-)
It’s about time we have a rum TDN! Finally a theme I can wrap my shaker around! Yay!
Love Mt. Gay XO. It’s what I base all my rum experiences on. It’s what rum should taste like.
